The great battles of the Napoleonic Wars were fought on the European continent. The northern areas of Europe were however also affected after Denmark/Norway's entry into the war in 1807 on the side of Napoleon.
The book depicts the events in Finnmark during the war years 1807-14. The main subject of the book is the events surrounding the town of Hammerfest, as well as the fortifications built there defend against British attacks.
The Britis naval blocade of Northern Norway is also presented, including raids against Norwegian settlements.
In addition to the activities of the Royal Navy off Northern Norway the opration of the Royal Dano-Norwegian Navy and American privateers against British shipping off the North Cape are treated.
